What is A Boudoir and What is the origin of Boudoir Photography?

According to wikipedia, a boudoir is a woman’s private sitting room, or dressing room.

That reminds me of what the inside of lingerie store Victoria’s Secret used to look like in the 80s. I think the idea of boudoir photography which is supposed to be sensual and intimate, is to capture a woman in her personal space.
