The Third Hancock Tower

As a child on one of my first visits to Boston, my parents took us up to observation deck of the John Hancock Tower. It was absolutely thrilling.

The John Hancock Tower is important because it is one of the last modernist skyscrapers to be built in the United States.

Things To Know

  • Pieces of glass used to pop out and fall to the ground.
  • The observation deck had an amazing show about the history of Boston.
  • The construction of the basement nearly sucked the Trinity Church into a hole.
  • The building was at one point in danger of folding in half.
  • A freakish wind could have caused the building to fall on its skinny side.
  • The building had dampers installed to prevent office workers from getting nausia sickness.
  • I blame the John Hancock Tower for the rise of postmodern architecture.
  • I love this building.
