Postcards From The Edge
A Visit To The Profile House
The Second & Ugly Profile House
Once upon a time, wealthy city folk would flea pollution and the summer heat by heading northing into the White Mountains. Many large hotels were built to accommodate them in the style in which they were willing to pay. One of the largest and most luxurious was The Profile House located in Franconia, NH. The Profile House was large, luxurious and could house 500-600 people comfortably. Sadly for me, the Profile House burned in 1923 leaving nothing but smoldering ruins.
The Profile House holds much interested for me today because although it no longer stands, its ruins can be found if you know where to look.
The First & Attractive Profile House
The secret is to ignore the main building and try to find the remnants of the cottages. There isn’t much left but you can find broken dishes, bed springs and lots of pipes.
