Phlip Glass Buys A Loaf Of Bread

There is a wonderful one act play that mocks minimalist music, Philip Glass to be specific, called “Philip Glass Buys A Loaf of Bread.” The play consists of a maximum 20 lines that are then repeated over and over. The story is about Philip Glass buying a loaf of bread and running into a woman he used to love. The first time I saw the play I cried, it was really beautiful. The play though is not supposed to make you cry but to laugh, it is mocking the repetition that Philip Glass is known for. But that is what I love about Philip Glass. At his best he makes these beautiful pieces that consist of a repetition of smooth circles with the occasional pointy sound thrown in. I love it and probably always will.
