John Adams: Harmonium

Thanks to Mr Tanaka. I was able to acquire a large amount of John Adam’s music.

Harmonium

I haven written before that listening to John Adams is like following in love under a down comforter, Harmonium is no exception. I was originally drawn to minimalist music because it is easier to “see” and to “feel.” The smooth shapes and lines of Harmonium don’t produce beautiful shapes like the music of Philip Glass or Steve Reich but instead produce a comforting/amazing feeling in my abdomen. From the basic understanding of the mechanic of my synaesthesia I wonder if Adams has achieved what I call the “love tone.” Such a tone/sensation would activate the chemicals in my brain similar to being in love. I don’t have a real answer to that question but it is worth exploring.
