Histora-ma-logical Discourse
Who needs to save buildings when you can tear them down and build new ones that look older. I liked Portsmouth, NH as a kid because it looked cool and was kinda sleazy. I like it even more now that anything built in the last 50 years has been replaced with ugly condos and some awful post-modern interpretation of the past.
When I look at an older structure, I ask myself, “what is the story behind this building?” If I’m looking at a histora-ma-logical structure, I ask myself “What is the story this building is trying to tell me?”
I believe newer structures are designed to not only tell us their purpose but help us imagine who is welcome within the building.
