I recently spotted something on google maps that left me completely intrigued.

On a hill over looking Peterborough, NH was what looked like the ruins of a burned out mansion. What was this mansion? Why did it burn?
I had been in Peterborough that morning because I wanted to see about purchasing the local fish market that was for sale. My plan was to swing by the fish market, visit the competition and then stalk a famous artist at the nearby MacDowell colony.
I googled the hell out of it and was once again surprised by what you can find online. There are multiple websites that list every single fire in every single town in the United States. I was able to find pictures of the fire and other random information about the building’s destruction. It turns out the property was originally a monastery and had been converted to single family home by a couple from Boston with an interest in mathematics. It is sad to see anyone’s home burn but far sadder to loose a home with nice landscaping.
