I cried or did the episcopalian equivalent when my Ebookwise ebook reader committed suicide. For those who don’t know, I love failed technology from the 1990s. I have and enjoy a Sony MagicLink, Apple Newton, Virgin(tm) Internet Appliance and until recently, an Ebookwise 1150. The eboowise was svelt and boasted a beautifully pixelated screen with a green backlight. It had 8megs of storage space that could upgraded with smartmedia cards. The first book I bought for it was about vampires and forbidden love. I enjoyed ebookwise’s inexpensive but unique selection of novels about conspiracy theories and shape shifting werewolves with a penchant for GM trucks. I was reading The Devil Wears Prada when I dropped my Ebookwise off of my bed and ruined it forever.
I didn’t want an Amazon Kindle, I thought it was ugly and the books expensive. With my stimulus check coming and a price drop, I decided to go ahead and buy one. I love it.
I’m currently eating through Emily Post’s Etiquette and attacking the Harvard Classics. Emily Post and I have a lot in common and if she were alive today, I think we would be good friends.
