Histora-ma-logical Discourse

Title

Who needs to save buildings when you can tear them down and build new ones that look older. I liked Portsmouth, NH as a kid because it looked cool and was kinda sleazy. I like it even more now that anything built in the last 50 years has been replaced with ugly condos and some awful post-modern interpretation of the past.

When I look at an older structure, I ask myself, “what is the story behind this building?” If I’m looking at a histora-ma-logical structure, I ask myself “What is the story this building is trying to tell me?”

I believe newer structures are designed to not only tell us their purpose but help us imagine who is welcome within the building.

I don’t really like this church but it is in Hanover and so people love it. It feels like there is something wrong with it, like it is high church or worse.

This is all that remains of a the house of people I sort-of-knew. They were known as the prince and the princess, they had a beautiful “farmhouse” that was given to the local hospital after their murder. The hospital let it decay and then tore it down.
