Gracie Mansion: Sofa Art

My friend Peter introduced me to art world legend Gracie Mansion and pointed me at this great article.

“From the various one-night cash-and-carry hullabaloos and the infamous “Famous Show” to any number of theme shows (such as “Sofa/Painting,” in which artists created not only the paintings but the proverbial couches to match), each exhibition was a concept, an event, an installation, a party.”

I had a friend who had a three piece sofa set and a matching triptych in her condo that I always admired. In college, my friends had a three piece sofa set without a matching triptych and I complained about it often. I even went so far as to offer to paint them a triptych that would match.

Steal My Art

After reading about a global network of art smuggling , I am starting to wish that my art was “stealable.” Which makes me wonder, how much does a piece of art have to be worth before someone wants to steal it?
